In his final weekly address before the summer recess, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Sunday highlighted the completion of the long-delayed Patras–Pyrgos highway and the expansion of the digital work card to nearly two million employees.
Mr. Mitsotakis noted the significance of finishing the 65-kilometer highway, a project that began in 2007 and was plagued by delays while 81 deaths occurred on the old road.
“We did the obvious—and we will keep doing it,” he said.
He also praised the expansion of the digital work card, now covering the vital tourism and hospitality sectors.
The move, he said, has led to a 1,000% jump in declared overtime in tourism and has generated 1.7 billion euros in added tax revenue.
The prime minister's review also covered a new incentive program offering up to 10,000 euros for families to move to the Evros region, increased defense spending, and a 755-million-euro investment in childcare.
