Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis took part in a closed-door discussion hosted by venture capital firm General Catalyst, meeting with investors, startup founders and senior executives from Silicon Valley's innovation ecosystem as part of his U.S. trip ahead of the U.N. General Assembly.
Mr. Mitsotakis held talks with Alexis Black Björlin, General Catalyst's chief strategy officer, on prospects for further investment in Greece, the momentum building within the country's startup ecosystem, and Greece's technology and artificial intelligence priorities.
The discussion centered on creating favorable conditions to attract international investment and technology firms, helping Greek startups scale internationally, and leveraging Greek scientific and entrepreneurial talent, alongside broader developments in AI and the opportunities they present for Europe and Greece in digital infrastructure and research.
Earlier, Mr. Mitsotakis met with San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie to discuss issues of mutual interest, with particular focus on the role technology and innovation can play in addressing challenges facing modern cities.
The meetings form part of a broader West Coast itinerary that has included stops at Nvidia and Sequoia Capital, underscoring Greece's push to position itself as an emerging destination for tech investment ahead of Mr. Mitsotakis's appearance at the U.N. General Assembly in New York.
