Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Nobel laureate Demis Hassabis, the CEO of Google DeepMind, held a public discussion in Athens about the future of artificial intelligence and its potential applications in Greece.
Speaking at the Athens Innovation Summit at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Mr. Mitsotakis said his government has a detailed strategy for Greece's role in the global AI environment.
"There are certain fields, such as education and healthcare, where I believe we can make tremendous progress and be at the forefront of innovation," he said.
Mr. Hassabis, a British computer scientist and AI researcher, responded that he believes Greece has "a very important role to play" in focusing on how AI can help society and government.
Earlier, Mr. Mitsotakis also toured the Syntagma metro station in central Athens ahead of the launch of 24-hour service on key transit lines every Saturday.
