A minor has been found dead in waters northeast of Kos during a joint Greek-Turkish search and rescue operation launched after a jet ski capsized off the Turkish coast near Bodrum, Greek broadcaster ERT reported.
According to ERT, Greece's Coast Guard Search and Rescue Coordination Center received a call early Wednesday afternoon from its Turkish counterpart requesting assistance in locating people missing after a jet ski carrying three passengers overturned near Bodrum.
During the search, Greek Coast Guard units recovered the body of a minor from the sea northeast of Kos. The child's exact age has not yet been determined.
The minor was transported to Kos General Hospital, where death was confirmed. Authorities have ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Search efforts are continuing for two adults who were also aboard the jet ski at the time of the accident.
Greek forces involved in the operation include a Coast Guard vessel and a Hellenic Air Force helicopter, which has already been deployed to the area.
Winds in the region are currently blowing at 5 on the Beaufort scale.
