Minister of Migration and Asylum Thanos Plevris, during his visit to Evros, referred to the government's priorities on migration.
"Our top priority is to combat illegal immigration by introducing disincentives, making it clear that those who enter Greece unlawfully now face two options: imprisonment or return. Societies can no longer be pressured and Greece has specific capabilities. Those who come illegally will know that there are consequences, they will not be welcome," Plevris said.
After his meeting with the mayor of Orestiada Diamantis Papadopoulos, he stressed that it is the duty of government to support Evros’ residents, who are affected by migration issue.
"With the new bill we have passed, we are seeking the strictest—but fairest—migration policy in the European Union. Anyone who enters illegally will know that the consequences now include imprisonment if they do not return," said Plevris.
