Evangelos Mytilineos, the CEO of the industrial and energy company Metlen, has warned that Europe faces a series of major economic threats, including a “trade war” with the United States and persistently high energy prices.
In a social media post, Mytilineos argued that Europe is at a critical turning point as the era of post-war integration comes to a close.
He cited the continent’s management of U.S. trade tariffs, an appreciated euro, and the prospect of a new horizontal tax on businesses as key concerns.
Referring to tariff announcements by President Donald Trump, Mytilineos stated that Europe’s weak response serves as a source of instability.
“The reactions—or rather the lack thereof—to Trump’s aggressive barrage of tariffs… are themselves seeds of destabilization,” he wrote.
