A man has confessed to fatally stabbing a 43-year-old Polish professor in a suburb of Athens earlier this month, and the victim's ex-wife is among five people arrested in connection with the crime, police said.
Authorities have detained the confessed killer, his partner who is the professor's ex-wife and the alleged mastermind, and three accomplices. The murder took place on July 4 in the Agia Paraskevi area.
While the ex-wife has denied any involvement, her partner admitted to carrying out the killing. Police said the motive appears to be ongoing financial disputes between the victim and his ex-wife related to U.S.-based companies.
The three accomplices, a Bulgarian and two Albanian nationals, allegedly helped rent the getaway car. They told police they were unaware of the murder plan but identified the ex-wife as the instigator.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to search for the murder weapon.
