Thessaloniki police have found and confiscated a large quantity of cocaine hidden in a container loaded with bananas from Ecuador at the city's port.
Specifically, in a targeted inspection at the Container Station (SEMPO), fifty (50) plastic packages containing a total of 57 kilograms and 919 grams (57,919.6 g) of the drug were found. The packages were carefully hidden in the refrigeration mechanisms of the container.
In addition to the drugs, the container was also seized as well as a portable tracking system (GPS) found with the drugs, presumably to track the route of the cargo.
The preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Central Port Authority of Thessaloniki, while the value of the seized quantity is estimated to be approximately 1,600,000 euros.
