Kimberly Guilfoyle was sworn in as the new U.S. Ambassador to Greece at the State Department on Monday, following a contentious confirmation process that was delayed for months by political gridlock in the Senate.

A former prosecutor and television personality, Ms. Guilfoyle is a close ally of former President Donald Trump, who nominated her for the post in December 2024.

Her confirmation was held up by Democrats, prompting Mr. Trump to accuse them of "political blackmail."

The Senate eventually confirmed Ms. Guilfoyle and dozens of other stalled nominees after the Republican majority used a procedural move known as the "nuclear option" to bypass the delays.

During her confirmation hearing, Ms. Guilfoyle highlighted her experience as a prosecutor and her commitment to strengthening U.S.-Greece ties on defense and energy.

She is the first woman to hold the post and is expected to arrive in Athens in late October.
