JPMorgan Chase is expanding its presence in Greece, naming Konstantinos Makrydakis to head global corporate banking in the country, according to an internal memo cited by Bloomberg.

Mr. Makrydakis will oversee coverage of large and mid-cap Greek companies, a mandate that deepens the U.S. banking giant's footprint in a market where it already operates an investment banking business.

Stelios Papadopoulos will remain JPMorgan's senior country officer for Greece, Cyprus and Malta.

The appointment comes as Greece draws renewed attention from international banks, more than a decade after the country's sovereign debt crisis pushed many foreign lenders to scale back or exit the market.

Greece's economy has since undergone a marked recovery, with credit rating upgrades, falling unemployment and steady growth helping restore investor confidence.

Greece regained investment-grade credit ratings from major agencies in 2023 for the first time since the crisis, a milestone that has drawn a wave of foreign investment into Greek banks, real estate and infrastructure.

JPMorgan's move follows similar signs of interest from global financial institutions in Greek corporate and investment banking, as the country's largest companies increasingly seek international capital for expansion and acquisitions.
