The defense team for a 65-year-old Italian man held in custody over the June killings of his partner and her adult son has filed a request seeking his release from pretrial detention, according to tempo24.news.
The man is charged with the deaths of his 54-year-old partner and her 26-year-old son, both found dead inside their home in the Longos area of Aigio in June, having sustained multiple wounds from a sharp object.
He has maintained his innocence from the outset, insisting on his own account of the circumstances surrounding the deaths and previously suggesting to investigators that the mother and son had killed one another.
According to the report, the defense request centers on new forensic laboratory findings and reports from technical consultants who have reviewed evidence in the case file.
Prosecutors have charged the man with premeditated double homicide, along with illegal possession and use of firearms.
The man's pretrial detention was ordered in June, following his formal testimony before the investigating judge in Aigio.
His court-appointed lawyer, Maria Iatropoulou, has previously said the case file contains significant gaps, pointing to the absence of the suspect's fingerprints on the knife recovered at the scene, while noting a fingerprint belonging to the victim's mother was found on her son's laptop.
Police have said the suspect grew inconsistent during lengthy questioning by homicide detectives, a factor that contributed to his arrest. The case, which shocked the local Aigialeia community, remains under investigation as authorities await additional forensic results.
