The Italian man charged with the double murder of his partner and her son in the coastal town of Aigio continued to maintain his innocence from prison, as his defense team prepares to file for his release next week, Greek broadcaster Ant1 reported.
"I am innocent. I cannot grieve. I want this case to end. I have nothing else to say beyond what I've said from the start," the 65-year-old suspect told Ant1 from custody.
He alleged that his partner, 54-year-old Maria, shot her 26-year-old son, Olympios, in a state of psychological distress before taking her own life.
According to Ant1, the defense's forthcoming release request will include evidence the suspect's legal team says contradicts the prosecution's original account of the killings and supports his version of events.
The suspect's brother also spoke publicly about the case, saying his brother "still loves Maria, despite everything that happened" and "cries every day for Olympios."
He described Olympios as "a beautiful person, so good," and insisted his brother was incapable of violence.
"My brother never killed even an insect. Pick up a gun and kill someone? It's impossible," he said, adding that he would support his brother's continued imprisonment if he believed him guilty.
Olympios's girlfriend previously told Ant1 that he had confided to her that he believed his mother "had lost her mind" shortly before the killings.
The investigation into the deaths remains ongoing.
