A 37-year-old Italian woman was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Mykonos during her bachelorette trip, just days before her scheduled wedding, Greek authorities have confirmed, in a tragedy that has stunned her hometown in Tuscany and prompted her employer to halt production in mourning.
Sara Ceccandini, who worked in the finance department at a Prada Group leather goods facility near Arezzo, was traveling in a rental car with three friends overnight Sunday when the vehicle was struck by another car under circumstances still under investigation.
All four occupants were injured, but Mrs. Ceccandini suffered the most severe trauma.
She was initially treated at the Mykonos medical center before being airlifted to the regional hospital on Syros, where she died hours later.
Mrs. Ceccandini lived with her partner, Luca Buggiali, and their 3-year-old daughter near Arezzo.
The couple had been due to marry this coming Saturday. Prada's Valvigna manufacturing facility, where she worked, temporarily suspended operations following news of her death.
The Italian Embassy in Athens and the Italian Foreign Ministry are coordinating with Greek authorities to support Mrs. Ceccandini's mother and sister, who traveled to Greece after the crash.
Greek forensic authorities are scheduled to conduct a routine autopsy before releasing her body for repatriation to Italy.
Local traffic police are continuing to investigate the driver of the second vehicle involved in the collision.
