Authorities on the island of Crete are investigating the sudden death of a 41-year-old Greek woman who was found unresponsive Sunday morning inside a tourist accommodation in the southern coastal village of Sougia.
The woman, who was originally from the broader Chania region, was discovered unconscious in her room, prompting an emergency call to the nearby Kantanos Health Center.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and immediately transported her by ambulance to the General Hospital of Chania.
Upon arrival, attending emergency room physicians formally pronounced her dead.
Preliminary assessments by local law enforcement indicate no signs of a struggle or foul play in the accommodation. Investigators currently attribute her sudden passing to natural or pathological causes, pending further medical examination.
A comprehensive autopsy has been ordered at the regional coroner’s office to definitively establish the exact cause of death. Authorities have temporarily withheld the deceased's identity out of respect for her family and pending formal notification of her next of kin.
