Cine Paris, one of Athens’ most iconic open-air cinemas, will reopen on Thursday with a lineup of acclaimed films curated by streaming platform Cinobo.
For many Athenians, Cine Paris holds cherished memories.
For some, it was a favorite spot for family gatherings during the summer; for others, a meeting place for a memorable first date.
The cinema first opened in 1920 on Kidathineon Street, named by its founder — a Greek hairdresser who had spent many years in Paris.
Originally housed indoors, Cine Paris moved in the early 1960s to its current rooftop location at 22 Kidathineon Street.
Nestled in the historic neighborhood of Plaka, Cine Paris is hard to miss. With a stunning view of the Acropolis that can sometimes steal the spotlight from even the best films, it is an integral part of Athens' cultural fabric.
After reopening last year under Cinobo’s direction, Cine Paris quickly regained its place as one of the city's most talked-about movie venues.
Now, the beloved rooftop cinema, celebrating more than 100 years of history, returns once again to launch the summer season early.
Beginning May 1, Cine Paris will offer a vibrant program featuring a wide selection of films — from timeless classics and contemporary Greek cinema to new releases, themed tributes, and other surprises. Screenings and special events will be updated regularly throughout the season, all taking place under the shadow of the Acropolis.
