Greek authorities have issued a very high wildfire risk warning for the Attica region, which includes Athens, and several other parts of the country.
The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection placed Attica, parts of Central Greece, the Peloponnese, the northern Aegean islands, and areas in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace under a category 4 risk alert, the second-highest level.
The warning comes amid a prolonged heatwave and strong winds.
Officials are urging the public to avoid any outdoor activities that could spark a fire, such as burning vegetation or using machinery that creates sparks. Any sign of smoke or fire should be reported immediately by dialing 199.
