"This morning, two Hellenic Air Force planes dropped 8.5 tonnes of essential food supplies onto areas of Gaza," Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in a social media post on Saturday.
"The operation was organised in collaboration with the countries of the European Union and the Middle East and its aim is to support the basic needs of the people in this war-torn region.
"Greece will continue to take initiatives for the immediate cessation of hostilities, the release of hostages, and the unhindered flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza. It is our collective duty to bring an immediate end to human suffering," he added.
According to an announcement, the successful humanitarian aid operation was carried out following the cooperation and coordination of the Greek foreign and national defence ministries with Jordanian authorities.
The food aid was transported to the designated drop zones within the Gaza Strip in two HAF cargo planes, a C-130H and C-27J, and their crews, as well as personnel from the Special Warfare Command. The operation was constantly monitored in real time by the National Operations Centre.
