Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected locally in several areas mostly of western Greece over the weekend, the National Meteorological Service (EMY) said in an emergency weather report on Friday.
Specifically, the following areas are expected to see heavy rain and storms:
a. On Saturday (November 8), and up to midday, phenomena will be intense at the Ionian Sea region, Epirus, western Central Greece, and northwestern Peloponnnese.
b. On Sunday (Nov. 9), morning to early noon, phenomena will be intense at the Ionian Sea area and as of the afternoon at western Central Greece and Epirus.
c. On Monday (Nov. 10) as follows - phenomena will be intense up to midday, at the Ionian Sea, Epirus and western Central Greece; up to evening, at western Peloponnese; and as of late morning at Central and Eastern Macedonia.
The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) recommends that citizens exercise caution, and said it had warned all state and local government agencies to be on extra alert.
In addition, the Fire Department has implemented the contingency plan for flooding and related phenomena, while local divisions have been placed on extra alert.
