A serious traffic accident on Crete has left five people injured, including an Italian tourist and a French family of five, after two vehicles traveling in opposite directions collided nearly head-on, authorities said.
The Italian tourist was driving from Agia Galini toward Rethymno when his vehicle collided with a car carrying the French family - two parents and their three children - traveling in the opposite direction. The circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear.
The collision was severe, with the vehicles nearly meeting head-on.
Fire Service crews responded immediately to free those trapped inside, and all five injured were transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Rethymno traffic police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
