Greece's main federation of travel agencies is calling on the government to urgently streamline the visa process for Indian tourists, warning that current delays and complications could undermine the launch of new direct flights from India scheduled for early 2026.

The Federation of Hellenic Associations of Travel & Tourist Agencies (FedHATTA) said the upcoming direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai by AEGEAN and IndiGo airlines present a massive opportunity to tap into India's rapidly growing tourism market.

However, the group warned that the current visa system is a major deterrent.

Prospective visitors face waiting times of up to two months and are often required to pre-pay for flights and hotels before their visa is even approved.

"Enhancing visa services is more crucial than ever," said Lysandros Tsilidis, president of FedHATTA.

He urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to improve the system to "reverse the negative perception among travelers and fully harness this market’s capabilities."
