The Greek government is expanding its national school renovation program, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced, highlighting that 431 school buildings across the country are already being upgraded.
In a video posted on TikTok from his visit to a school in the Athens suburb of Zografou,
Mr. Mitsotakis described the initiative as the first national program for upgrading the physical infrastructure of Greek schools.
“The school was built 70 years ago… and has never been renovated until now,” the prime minister said, referring to the 3rd Gymnasium of Zografou. “It is one of 431 schools currently being renovated under the Marietta Giannakou program, and it will be ready by the start of the school year.”
The program is named after the late former education minister, Marietta Giannakou.
“Our public schools are transforming. Students and teachers are gaining the facilities they deserve,” Mr. Mitsotakis concluded.
