Greek Premier Unveils €23 Billion National Development Strategy Through 2030
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has unveiled a sweeping 23-billion-euro National Development Program, outlining a highly coordinated five-year investment strategy designed to drive the country's economic convergence with the rest of Europe by 2030.
Speaking at an event hosted by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, Mr. Mitsotakis announced that the state will inject the funds into 37 targeted infrastructure and growth programs.
He noted that the initiative replaces decades of fragmented, short-term regional planning with a centralized, long-term vision.
"From now until 2030, Greece’s position in a changing Europe will be decided," Mr. Mitsotakis said. "It will be decided whether we can achieve real convergence to the benefit of all Greeks, or if we will remain in a category of countries that are perpetually out of breath, chasing those that excel."
Opening his address with a quote from Oscar Wilde—"If you have exhausted your subject, you have exhausted your audience"—the prime minister kept his focus strictly on the fiscal realities. He stressed that dedicating 23 billion euros to the new framework was only possible due to Greece’s disciplined economic management since 2019.
The premier pointed out that the country continues to hit its fiscal targets, generate primary surpluses, and reduce its public debt at a faster pace than any other nation in the history of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
This financial stability, he argued, allows the state to fund both necessary social policies and large-scale public investments simultaneously.
Laying the groundwork for his party's platform ahead of the 2027 national elections, Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized that this economic development must reach "all 1,008 postal codes" across the country.
He called for unprecedented cooperation between the central government and regional authorities to ensure the 2026-2030 program permanently transforms the Greek economy.
