Greece's primary budget surplus exceeded its target by 1.2 billion euros in the first seven months of the year, a fiscal overperformance that will be “returned to the citizens,” according to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

In his regular weekly social media post, Mr. Mitsotakis said that every available budgetary space will be used for the benefit of society.

He pointed to several other positive economic indicators from the first half of the year, including an 11% growth in tourism revenues, a 4.3% increase in goods exports excluding fuel, and an 800-million-euro rise in foreign direct investment compared to last year.

“All these indicators show an economy steadily improving and generating benefits that are returned to society,” Mr. Mitsotakis said.

His remarks signal the government's intent to use the gains from the economic recovery to support citizens' welfare.
