Cooler temperatures and rain will move into Greece starting Sunday, meteorologist Thodoris Kolydas said, though he cautioned that "summer isn't handing over the keys" just yet.

In a social media post, Mr. Kolydas, a former head of the National Meteorological Service, said rain is expected mainly in the northwest and north of the country from Sunday, accompanied by a gradual drop in temperatures.

Mr. Kolydas is a well-known figure in Greek weather forecasting circles, whose seasonal outlooks on social media regularly draw wide public attention.

Average temperatures across Greece typically begin easing by mid-September as the eastern Mediterranean shifts from summer toward autumn.

Despite the shift, Mr. Kolydas said summer has not yet fully ended, though "autumn is starting to knock on the door."

"We flagged this from early in the month, through the season's underlying weather trend, pointing to the change expected by mid-September," he wrote.

"From Sunday, blue returns to the maps — both in temperature and rainfall — with more coolness and rain mainly in the northwest and north."

"Summer isn't handing over the keys yet, but autumn is starting to knock on the door," he added. "And this time, blue isn't just in the sea."
