The small Greek island of Kimolos is home to the beach with the clearest waters in the world, according to a new global ranking by a U.S. travel company that analyzed millions of online tourist reviews.
Prassa Beach, located on the northeastern coast of the tiny Cycladic island, topped a list of 50 beaches worldwide compiled by the Florida Panhandle travel agency.
The ranking was based on an analysis of more than 2.4 million public reviews on major travel sites, with Prassa earning the highest percentage of comments that specifically mentioned “clear water.”
Several other Greek beaches also featured prominently in the top five.
Gennadi Beach on the island of Rhodes was ranked second, while Agia Anna on Naxos placed fifth.
“With a coastline stretching 13,676 kilometers, Greece boasts the longest shoreline in the Mediterranean, a sea renowned for its crystal waters,” the agency noted in its findings. “It’s no surprise that most of the world’s top beaches for clear water are in Greece.”
Unlike its more famous and crowded neighbors, Kimolos is known for its relaxed, authentic atmosphere. The island features classic whitewashed villages and a unique volcanic landscape, including a massive mushroom-shaped rock formation known as the “Skiadi.”
The international recognition comes as Greece’s summer tourism season is in full swing, highlighting one of its lesser-known gems and reinforcing the country's reputation as a top destination for pristine beaches.
