A Greek military doctor says his ex-wife spent more than a year secretly poisoning his food and water, and that hidden cameras he installed in his home finally caught her in the act, according to police and Greek media reports.

The woman, 41, was arrested on Sunday in the Athens suburb of Peristeri. She has not been convicted. Laboratory results on the substances found have not been made public.

The case unraveled earlier this week.

Police were called to the man's ground-floor apartment for a possible break-in and found no forced entry. A second alert followed. The doctor, 41, who was on duty at a hospital, told officers he had watched on his phone as his ex-wife entered his home in black clothing, a black cap, a surgical mask and plastic gloves, studied his kitchen and used a syringe on food and water.

She told police she went in only to check that he was away, according to reports. Her parents were waiting outside in a car with the couple's 3½-year-old son.

Under the passenger seat, police found a bottle labeled atropine, a drug that in excess can cause dilated pupils, a racing heart, confusion and hallucinations.

They also found a used syringe, used gloves and 54 grams of an unidentified powder. In the apartment, they seized a jar of honey, two jars of pepper and a package of oats containing unidentified powder, plus a bottle of water possibly tampered with.

The doctor told authorities his health began failing in February 2025.

Over the next 18 months, he reported dry mouth, fever, confusion, hallucinations and seizures, symptoms reportedly consistent with long exposure to atropine. He was hospitalized several times, including in intensive care in June 2025 with aspiration pneumonia.

On Aug. 19, after another episode at a restaurant, he said, he became suspicious. He later asked the restaurant for its camera footage, which allegedly showed her putting something in his water while he was in the restroom.

That was when he installed cameras at home.

The couple married in 2019 and divorced in February 2025.

He told police she could not accept the split and tried to hurt him, and that she blocked his contact with their son.

Her lawyer could not be reached, and the woman's account of what she did has been reported only secondhand.
