A Greek-American sports journalist drew widespread attention at Giannis Antetokounmpo's official introductory press conference with the Miami Heat after addressing the NBA star in Greek during the event.
Trish Christakis's question caught the room by surprise, prompting smiles among reporters, as Mr. Antetokounmpo responded in kind, despite Ms. Christakis having told him he was free to answer in whichever language he preferred.
After finishing his answer, Mr. Antetokounmpo, realizing most reporters in the room hadn't understood the exchange, joked about the moment.
"I told her I don't like her," he said with a laugh, drawing laughter from the assembled press.
Mr. Antetokounmpo went on to discuss the upcoming NBA season, calling the league's 82-game schedule a major challenge.
He expressed excitement about beginning a new chapter of his career in Miami, praising teammate Bam Adebayo and head coach Erik Spoelstra, and said the city suits him well, combining warm weather with a family-friendly environment.
