Greece's Holy Spirit public holiday on Monday will see temperatures reach 33°C to 34°C on the northern and eastern mainland plains, with afternoon thunderstorms developing over mountainous terrain and patchy morning fog reducing visibility in western and northern regions, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service.
Most of the country will have clear skies with temperatures between 29°C and 32°C. Cooler conditions will prevail in the Cyclades and Crete, capped at 28°C.
Late Monday evening, storms are expected to drift into low-lying plains in northern Macedonia and Thrace.
Marine winds will range from 3 to 4 Beaufort, with coastal and open sea areas seeing westerly gusts up to 5 Beaufort.
The forecast marks a warmer turn from the largely settled conditions of the preceding days — and sits well below the 35°C levels recorded this week in northwestern Europe, where a heat dome has claimed at least 18 lives.
