Greece's Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis has met with Israel's new ambassador, Pninat Yanai, and the two agreed to deepen cooperation against terrorism, violent extremism and online radicalization, the ministry said.
Mr. Chrysochoidis welcomed Mrs. Yanai in what was described as a courtesy meeting, citing a strategic relationship between the two countries built on mutual trust.
The talks centered on security amid complex geopolitical developments, with emphasis on cross-border coordination and rapid exchange of expertise and intelligence.
They also discussed closer work on organized crime, crisis management and cybercrime.
Christos Tsitsimpikos, head of the Greek police's international cooperation directorate, and Doron Lebovich, the Israeli embassy's deputy chief of mission, took part.
Mrs. Yanai, who took up her post in Athens this fall, has made security and counterterrorism cooperation a theme of her early tenure.
Last week she cited a Flydubai flight in which Israeli officials say a co-pilot tried to crash the plane as proof of the danger of incitement and extremist violence.
The meeting came a day after Mr. Chrysochoidis met a senior U.S. Homeland Security official, as Greece works to deepen security ties with partners amid wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
