Greece’s Ministry of Culture will stage 190 free live performances across 94 ancient archaeological sites and museums this summer, marking a major expansion of the country’s efforts to decentralize its modern art scene.
The flagship festival, “All of Greece, One Culture,” runs from July 1 through August 31, 2026. Ministry officials said the program has grown from 70 productions last year to 95 original works, featuring more than 900 artists.
All performances are restricted to rural and island locations across 12 administrative regions to boost regional tourism outside Athens.
Culture Minister Lina Mendoni said the 2026 repertoire explores humanism, inspired by a classical verse from playwright Menander: “How beautiful a person is when they are truly humane.”
The lineup includes 34 theatrical plays, 23 musical concerts, 14 dance performances, 13 youth events, eight visual installations and three opera-theatre acts. Each production will be performed twice on consecutive days.
The festival map incorporates 19 newly excavated or recently restored historical venues opening to modern artistic events for the first time, including the First Ancient Theatre of Larissa, the Mycenae archaeological site, the Roman House of Kos and Arkadi Monastery in Crete.
While admission is entirely free, ministry representatives said mandatory reservation slots open online on June 24 to manage capacity limits at the historically sensitive monuments.
