Greece is launching a €542 million national initiative to bring interactive boards, robotics, and AI-driven learning tools into every school, Education Minister Sofia Zacharaki has announced.
The "Digital School" program, funded largely by the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility, is one of the largest educational modernizations in the country's history.
“Education in Greece is changing radically,” Ms. Zacharaki said at the Athens Conservatory. “We are moving from chalk to digital experience… Knowledge should not be just information — it should become a personal experience for every student.”
The ministry has already distributed over 36,000 interactive learning systems and 117,000 robotics kits to schools nationwide.
The program also includes comprehensive retraining for 155,000 educators to adapt to the new technologies.
The plan also funds 13 regional "Centers for Educational Innovation" to serve as labs for AI, STEM, and robotics.
A key pillar is accessibility, with over €10 million allocated for specialized digital equipment for students with disabilities in 455 schools.
A new AI-driven career guidance platform will also be introduced.
Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis emphasized the project's social reach.
“The Recovery Fund does not only serve the few — it reaches every family, every child, everywhere in Greece,” Mr. Papathanasis said.
Ms. Zacharaki concluded that the program is "a promise that every child in Greece… will have the same chance to learn, create, and dream.”
