Greece is using tax policy as a key tool to drive growth and strengthen social welfare, Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Giorgos Kotsiras said as a sweeping new tax reform bill goes to Parliament this week.

Speaking at the 9th Economic Conference of the Hellenic Entrepreneurs Association, Mr. Kotsiras said Greece has emerged as a "pillar of stability" due to consistent fiscal policies that promote both entrepreneurship and social cohesion.

“Tax administration is becoming more efficient… tax evasion is being reduced,” Mr. Kotsiras said.

“This ensures stable public revenues for social and development policies while strengthening trust between the state and citizens.”

The new bill, titled “Tax Reform for Demographic Renewal and the Middle Class,” is central to the government's next phase and goes before Parliament on Thursday.

It includes several commitments made by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Thessaloniki International Fair.

Mr. Kotsiras described the proposal as a "landmark reform," emphasizing tax cuts designed to support families and young people, address housing challenges, and revitalize Greece’s regions.

The plan also introduces incentives for defense-related investments.

“Greece has achieved a remarkable recovery, earning credibility and offering prospects for growth,” Mr. Kotsiras said. “Our goal is for tax policy to serve as a lever of development and social well-being.”
