The Greek government is planning to tighten the oversight and funding framework for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working on migration issues, Migration and Asylum Minister Thanos Plevris has announced.
The move comes as the government revealed that more than €175 million has been allocated to NGOs through the E.U.'s Asylum, Migration, and Integration Fund (AMIF) for the 2021–2027 period.
Mr. Plevris said that all 26 major organizations receiving funds are registered with the ministry and are subject to stringent financial audits and on-site inspections.
He emphasized the government's commitment to enhancing compliance measures to ensure transparency and accountability.
Among the well-known beneficiaries of the funding are the NGOs PRAKSIS (€7.22 million), Solidarity Now (€2.09 million), ARSIS (€22.48 million), and the Hellenic Red Cross (€7.6 million)
