Greece has pulled off a stunning 1-0 upset over Germany at WWK Arena, handing new German manager Jürgen Klopp his first defeat since taking charge and moving Greece to the top of Nations League Group A2 with six points from two matches.
Dimitris Kourbelis scored the decisive goal in the 74th minute, latching onto a deflected cross from Christos Tzolis before beating Felix Nmecha and firing a shot that took a final deflection off Joshua Kimmich on its way past goalkeeper Alexander Nübel.
Germany dominated possession throughout, finishing with 75.5% of the ball and 16 shots to Greece's eight, but goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis repeatedly denied the hosts, including a crucial save on a curling effort from Karim Adeyemi.
Germany also squandered chances through Younes Ebnoutalib and Manu Konaté before falling behind.
Mr. Klopp, whose managerial debut ended in a stoppage-time draw against the Netherlands, made five changes in search of an equalizer, introducing Florian Wirtz, Jonathan Burkardt and Serge Gnabry, but Germany could not find a breakthrough.
The result leaves Germany third in the group with a single point, facing fellow winless side Serbia at home Thursday.
