Greece has expressed “profound shock” and offered condolences following a catastrophic fire at a Swiss Alpine resort that killed at least 40 people and injured more than 100 during a New Year’s celebration.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated the blaze at the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, which tore through the venue around 1:30 a.m. as revelers rang in 2026.
“Our sincere condolences go to the families of the victims. We wish a swift recovery for those injured,” the ministry said in a post on the social media platform X.
According to initial reports, at least 40 people are presumed dead and more than 115 sustained injuries, some critical.
The upscale resort town is a major destination for skiing and golf, and the bar was reportedly packed with young people when the fire erupted.
Greek diplomatic authorities said they “continue to monitor the situation closely and stand ready to provide any assistance required.”
Officials confirmed there were no immediate reports of Greek nationals among the casualties.
