More than 100 archaeological sites and museums across Greece will offer free admission on the night of the August full moon this Saturday, a popular annual tradition that allows the public to experience the country's cultural heritage under the stars.
The Ministry of Culture announced that 114 sites will be open with free entry on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 9. Many of these locations will also host special events, including concerts, theatrical performances, and guided tours, from Aug. 8-13.
Separately, the Acropolis Museum in Athens will celebrate the full moon, also known as the "Sturgeon Moon," by extending its hours until midnight.
Visitors there will be able to tour the galleries and enjoy views of the illuminated Parthenon, but standard admission fees will apply.
The annual event offers a unique opportunity for both residents and tourists to visit Greece's historic landmarks in a special nighttime setting.
