The Greek Ministry of Culture has launched a new national initiative to connect its world-famous archaeological sites and monuments through five curated "Cultural Routes," aiming to offer visitors a more immersive and story-driven experience of the country's vast history.
The project, unveiled at an event at the National Gallery in Athens, links historical landmarks with natural landscapes and modern tourist destinations to create thematic journeys that span the entire timeline of Greek history.
The initial five routes were developed by the ministry’s directorates of antiquities and cover broad historical and geographical narratives.
One route, titled “Monumental Works of Cyclopes and Men,” will guide visitors through the major sites of the Mycenaean era. Another, called “The Road to the West: From Homer to Cervantes,” will trace Greece's maritime connections and cultural influence across the Mediterranean.
The initiative represents a significant strategic shift in how Greece presents its cultural heritage.
By connecting disparate sites through a common theme, the ministry hopes to encourage travelers to explore different regions and historical periods, moving beyond single-destination visits.
The program is seen as a key part of Greece’s broader effort to enhance its tourism product, leveraging its unparalleled archaeological legacy to offer deeper and more engaging experiences for a global audience.
