Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will chair a cabinet-level launch Wednesday for "PosoKanei" — meaning "How Much Does It Cost" — an artificial intelligence-driven application
that tracks real-time prices across roughly 10,000 consumer goods at major supermarket chains, giving shoppers instant cross-store price comparisons.
The platform, developed by the Ministry of Development, replaces the existing "e-katanalotis" consumer app and will initially cover supermarkets with annual revenues exceeding 90 million euros.
Users can build custom shopping baskets and compare prices across retailers in real time.
Mr. Mitsotakis acknowledged the app will not resolve global inflationary pressures but said it would force major retailers to compete transparently and empower consumers with information that has until now been difficult to access in one place.
The launch is tied to a broader expansion of Greece's newly established Market Control and Consumer Protection Authority, which is simultaneously activating a 4.6-million-euro funding package to embed AI into public market audits, streamline consumer complaint procedures and accelerate enforcement of fines against anti-competitive retail practices.
The initiative comes as cost-of-living pressures remain the dominant concern among Greek voters ahead of the spring 2027 general election.
