Greece will keep its Patriot air defense battery in Saudi Arabia at the kingdom's request, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis told Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during talks on Sunday.
Mr. Mitsotakis condemned recent attacks on Saudi Arabia and stressed Greece's solidarity with the kingdom at what his office called a critical moment for the region.
Greece has deployed the Patriot battery in Saudi Arabia since 2021 to protect key energy facilities at Yanbu, on the Red Sea coast.
The two leaders discussed developments in Iran and the wider Middle East, focusing on freedom of navigation.
Mr. Mitsotakis said Greece, a major shipping power, places the highest importance on the security of international sea lanes.
He warned that restrictions on shipping would set a dangerous precedent.
They also discussed expanding cooperation in energy, defense and connectivity.
That includes the East to Med Data Corridor, a planned link to carry data between Asia and Europe via Saudi Arabia and Greece.
The leaders reviewed progress since the first meeting of their countries' strategic cooperation council in January 2025 and discussed preparations for a second.
The visit capped a week of intense Greek diplomacy with Gulf states.
On Thursday, Mr. Mitsotakis hosted Abu Dhabi's crown prince in Athens, where the two countries lined up agreements worth up to 12 billion euros ($14 billion).
Greece has sought to position itself as a bridge between Europe and the Gulf, as conflict in the region disrupts shipping and drives up energy prices.
