The Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum has extended its legal visa program for seasonal agricultural workers until March 31, 2026, while clarifying that no program exists to issue work permits to undocumented migrants.
Ministry sources said the extension is intended to support urgent labor needs in the agricultural sector, particularly for the current olive harvest.
The ministry issued the clarification to end media speculation that a separate regularization program for illegal migration was being considered.
Under the renewed measure, all incoming agricultural laborers must enter Greece through this specific, lawful seasonal migration route.
At the same time, the ministry emphasized that its policy for undocumented migrants residing in the country remains unchanged.
Those without legal permits will face strict enforcement, including imprisonment and deportation.
The government's approach aims to balance the economic demands of the agricultural sector with a commitment to curbing unauthorized work and enforcing immigration regulations.
