The Greek government has filed an official diplomatic complaint against Albania after a map showing several Greek regions as part of a "greater Albania" was published online, the government's spokesman said Monday.
During a press briefing, government spokesperson, Pavlos Marinakis, sharply rejected the map, calling it “completely a-historical” and having nothing to do with reality.
The map reportedly depicted the Greek island of Corfu and cities in the Epirus region, such as Ioannina and Preveza, as belonging to Albania.
Mr. Marinakis clarified that while Athens understands the map does not represent the Albanian government's official policy, the diplomatic complaint was still necessary. He warned that "such publications can only create a negative impression" while efforts are underway to improve relations between the two countries.
