Greece and Cyprus have signed financing agreements for 20 new cross-border projects totaling 33.5 million euros ($36.4 million), aimed at bolstering resilience, sustainability, and social cohesion across their regions.
Alternate Finance Minister Nikos Papathanasis formalized the agreements within the framework of the INTERREG VI-A Greece-Cyprus Cooperation Program 2021-2027.
In total, 88 entities are participating in these initiatives, with 47 from Greece and 41 from Cyprus.
A comprehensive set of cross-border actions is now fully underway and is expected to be completed within the next two years.
The operations are being implemented in Crete, the North Aegean, the South Aegean, and across Cyprus. These projects seek to jointly address shared challenges, primarily focusing on critical areas such as energy efficiency and green energy development, climate resilience and natural disaster management, protection of nature and biodiversity with the integration of digital monitoring tools, and enhancing accessibility, culture, and social inclusion.
