A 27-year-old German man was arrested after flying to Crete and violently attacking his 25-year-old ex-girlfriend and her new partner at a hotel in Ammoudara, after tracking her location through a shared email account, according to Greek outlet Cretalive.gr.
The suspect discovered the woman's whereabouts after a food delivery order placed through their still-shared email account revealed the hotel's address and room number, authorities said. He booked an immediate flight to Crete, scaled the hotel's pool fence to enter undetected, and made his way to the couple's suite.
When the woman's 19-year-old boyfriend attempted to intervene, the suspect, who authorities said had trained in martial arts following the couple's breakup, struck him and knocked him down before attacking the woman, causing serious injuries.
She was taken to Venizeleio Hospital in Heraklion, where she remains under medical care; the 19-year-old sustained facial injuries but did not require hospitalization.
The attacker fled the scene but was located by Malevizi police roughly an hour later, found with his suitcase as he prepared to leave the area.
He now faces felony-level charges and was given until Tuesday to appear before an investigating magistrate in Heraklion.
Following his arrest, the suspect claimed he only wanted to talk to his ex-girlfriend, saying their relationship had ended via text message and he never had the chance to speak with her in person.
He acknowledged entering the hotel through the pool fence but denied assaulting her, claiming she was injured after slipping and falling near the pool.
The couple had dated for roughly six years before breaking up in February, with the woman previously alleging incidents of violence during the relationship.
The investigation remains ongoing.
