"We always had shortages and we will always have shortages. The question is whether we have more or less shortages in 2025 than in the past," Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis said in an interview on Monday with OPEN TV, referring to Eurostat’s data regarding the National Health System (NHS).
Commenting also on reports and articles claiming that "the NHS is collapsing," Georgiadis noted that "since I have served as Minister before, 12 years ago, and I have a very clear picture of what the NHS was then and what it is today, I can tell you unequivocally that it is nothing like it was. The NHS today is three times better than in the past. We have faster digital systems, more doctors, more nurses, we perform more surgeries, and we have shorter waiting times."
Later Georgiadis posted on X:
"Total health expenditures are expected to reach 7.1 billion euros compared to 6.3 billion euros in 2024 and 5.5 billion euros in 2023. Hospital subsidies are projected to amount to 3.2 billion euros in 2025, compared to 2.8 billion euros in 2024 and 2.4 billion euros in 2023. According to the Finance Ministry, during the period 2019–2025, health expenditures increased by 74.4%, while hospital funding increased by 120.8%."
