Evan Fournier scored 20 points, including a run of six straight that turned a deficit into a halftime lead, as Olympiacos Piraeus defeated Real Madrid 92-85 on Sunday
to claim their fourth EuroLeague title in front of 19,000 supporters at the Telekom Center Athens — avenging a 2023 final loss to the same opponent in Kaunas.
Real Madrid opened with a 9-1 burst, with Trey Lyles finishing the first half with 21 of his game-high 24 points.
Head coach Georgios Bartzokas called an early timeout, brought his second unit on and gradually clawed back the deficit before Mr. Fournier's personal six-point run leveled the game at 36-36. Olympiacos led 46-44 at the break.
Mario Hezonja's 19 points kept Madrid in contention through the third quarter, pushing them back in front 65-61 heading into the final frame.
Mr. Fournier and Sasha Vezenkov answered with back-to-back threes to restore the lead, and Tyrique Jones's dunk with 90 seconds remaining made it 82-80.
Thomas Walkup forced a critical stop against Gabriel Deck in the closing seconds before Alec Peters — who finished with 13 points and seven rebounds — sealed the win at the free-throw line, triggering celebrations across Athens.
The victory ends a four-year run of near-misses for Olympiacos, who had reached four consecutive Final Fours without a title before Sunday's win on home soil.
