A woman, 32, who will stand trial on charge of murdering her 3-year-old daughter was led to jail on Wednesday pending trial, by joint decision of the investigating judge and the prosecutor.
The woman, who is of Algerian origin, testified with the help of an interpreter for Arabic in a process that lasted nearly six hours. She has denied the charges and repeated that her toddler had lost consciousness after two falls in the bathroom. Having panicked because she was in Greece illegally and thinking the child was dead, the mother claimed, she decided to abandon the body of the child, Jena, at sea instead of taking her to hospital.
Jena's body was found by passers-by floating at sea at Edem beach in Paleo Faliro at the early hours of Sunday, July 27.
