Greece will see a return to warm, dry conditions starting Thursday, meteorologist Nikos Kanteres told iefimerida, after a low-pressure system that brought rain to southern islands and Crete confirmed his forecast that it would not develop into a full Mediterranean cyclone.

Mr. Kanteres said the low, still positioned beneath Crete, may bring limited rainfall through Thursday without flooding risk before drifting toward the Dodecanese and Karpathos, where it is expected to weaken further after producing scattered showers.

Temperatures are then forecast to climb, potentially exceeding 32 degrees Celsius by Saturday through Monday, with no further disruptions expected.

Mr. Kanteres said he identified the system's trajectory last Saturday by analyzing curvature patterns in 500 hectopascal pressure maps, tracing a cold air mass from Central Europe that produced a primary low affecting northern Greece, Epirus, Macedonia, Thrace and Thessaly with local rain, exactly as predicted.

He said a secondary, shallow low then formed over Algeria and Tunisia before drifting slowly east along North Africa's coast, ultimately reaching Crete with weak local storms — an outcome he said had already weakened more than initially expected.

Mr. Kanteres said he had ruled out the possibility of a Mediterranean cyclone from the outset.
