Greek firefighters are continuing to battle a major wildfire on the eastern Aegean island of Chios.
At the same time, blazes that broke out earlier this week in several other parts of the country have been largely contained, officials said.
The most severe fire front is on Chios, where crews worked through the night to control the flames.
In the western region of Preveza, firefighters are dealing with continuous flare-ups from a fire that has spread into the neighboring Arta region, though no homes are currently under threat.
Meanwhile, the situation has significantly improved for large wildfires in Achaia on the Peloponnese peninsula and on the island of Zakynthos, where there are no longer active fronts.
Fire service spokesperson Vasilis Vathrakogiannis said that nearly 5,000 firefighters and 62 aircraft remain deployed across the country to combat the fires amid challenging conditions of high heat and strong winds.
Authorities continue to urge public vigilance.
