Strong firefighting forces continue to extinguish the wildfire in the Tsakaioi village, Karystos in Evia island which has reached within a stone's throw of the houses.
The 112 alarm message sent on afternoon calls for immediate evacuation from the village, as the fire front is approaching residential areas. The strong winds are hampering the work of the firefighting forces, reinforcing the fire fronts and causing constant reignitions.
The Regional Governor of Central Greece Fanis Spanos, tells ANA-MPA that "the air forces that were deployed managed to mitigate the situation somewhat, but the winds remain extremely strong, resulting in reinforced fronts and increasing reignitions. We are already setting up two defence points with machinery and ground forces in order to protect the village of Tsakaioi.
