Greece and Europe need to focus on the digital transition, adopting the digital euro, and simplifying bureaucracy, National Economy & Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis told European Union ambassadors, at a dinner held by the Danish Embassy in Athens.
Pierrakakis was guest speaker at the event, which the embassy held in the context of its presidency of the Council of Ministers of the European Union.
"Europe needs a strong referrence point in the financial system, as this is transitioning to the digital world. The digital euro can play this role," he asserted. "In this context, it is useful to focus on competitive ability, achieving development, removing obstacles and useless buraeucracy, and promoting legislation for the digital euro," the FinMin said. He added that national sensitivities must be taken into account, while underlining, "This is the only realistic path, but we must move fast. The issue is not the ideas - the Draghi and Letta reports already contain the ideas. The issue is the implementaiton, the selection of proposals, in which consensus is more feasible, acceleration."
